Fortunately, this is ALSO doable in the Steam version. What the game really needs like Morgan said is some modifications to enemy waves to make the game harder. This turned out to be all buffs though, which made an easy game even EASIER, but at least all 18 towers feel more balanced. I've been modding the Steam version of the game, and buffed 12/18 of the less useful tower to be more usable and actually fit certain niches they were meant for, like being choke point stalling (Rotten Forest), Choke point damage and AoE (Melting Furnance), etc. The game is also WAY too easy, even on Impossible mode. But as you play you learn that of the 18 towers available to you, about 1/3 of them you'll actually use because the others are underpowered or just too situational to get value out of. The tower variety is excellent and everything looks amazing on paper, including the graphics. I agree with everything said, Vengeance is such a mixed bag. I think in the future they should provide around 12-14 towers to choose 4 from, but each tower should have split upgrade paths. Some towers are worse than others so use them to challenge yourself. There are 12,616 tower combinations in KRV and 256 in the other games. The linear upgrade paths are a little unfortunate but you get to choose 5 upgrade paths that you definitely want as opposed to being given 8 and choosing the ones you want from among them. Less abilities are useful ratio-wise but it's still similar in terms of raw count which is what really matters. In conclusion, there's more redundancy but that's natural with more towers and you still get more diversity of towers overall. Even the rocket riders might make an appearance! And to me if a tower even shows up once, then it was strategically relevant. Try stage 8 campaign impossible NLL with Asra, no upgrade points, and only the 4 original towers. If you want to challenge yourself then pick worse towers. Some towers are worse than others but I would actually say that's irrelevant or even good. They deal better damage than shadow archers for the price but that damage is tied to two vulnerable ground units. Some towers are quite unique, like the elite harassers. It's a worse ratio, but you still get a reasonable amount of worthwhile upgrades. There are a lot of bad abilities among the towers but it doesn't seem so bad to me because every tower has 3 abilities and usually 1 or 2 are worthwhile, and sometimes all 3. Still, KRF has 7 useful upgrade paths and in KRV you'll only ever have 5 but you can choose them from 18. I think it's a downside but a downside somewhat mitigated because you get to choose precisely the 5 upgrade paths you want to use before a level rather than being offered 8 without choice and only using some of them. The linear upgrade paths are something to ponder. Those two upgrades aren't the best, but they still have uses. I think of the tower as having two upgrades. The shadow archer's crow upgrade is a joke upgrade. Also SUM (18 choose k) = 12616, the possible tower combinations in KRV compared to just 2^8 = 256 in the other games. I tried ranking their redundancies and came up with something like 12 "fully unique" towers. Of course it's going to be more redundant, but there's 18 of them. A low cost entry point is perfect for people that might play the campaign once and never touch the game again.Ī lot of the arguments against the tower system in KRV don't convince me. On mobile the heroes and towers are there to make the devs more money by allowing players that like the series to spend a little extra so they can extend their playtime and expirience. A lot of people would rather keep the price low and still expirience all the levels and 90% of the content without having to pay for all the heroes. There are also lots of people that would find that $15 price point repulsive given that you can't even try the game first. You just don't see $10-$15 mobile games these days and parents are much more likely to buy a game for their kid if it is just a few bucks. On mobile micro transactions are present to keep the price at a low entry point. ![]() Just like in previous KR games all content is included on Steam making it a pretty competitively priced game on PC. There are more free towers in Vengeance than any other game giving you plenty of combinations to try.
